If it wasn’t difficult, it wouldn’t be worth it.

Prompt: What was your hardest parenting or partner moment?

I bought Joseph a cell phone a little over a year ago when he was nine. I planned on letting him walk home more after school, less than three blocks away in a small and safe town. Yet I would balk when the time actually came. I was paying for his daycare anyway, so I kept making excuses. His asthma was acting up, or it was cold outside.

All kids mature at different ages, but I think he’s ready. He takes care of his stuff (like his cell phone) and is observant and caring. Besides, who sends their 10-year-old to a baby sitter?

Well, I did. To give him my trust is a big responsibility and I think he’s ready for it. Plus, he got his first zit this week. Right on his nose. Too perfect!
