For the rodeo weekend, there is always a parade in my town. This year the tradition continued with kids sitting on the curb, sack in hand, waiting for cheap candy to land a few feet away from them so they can load up their candy bowls at home.
I once thought throwing candy at parades was illegal in Kansas. Maybe that was just a rumor I heard. Something about children’s safety, kids running in the street, big tractors and horses in the parade, you know–terrifying accidents waiting to happen.
The sheriff and his deputies threw out suckers from their car windows that said, “Don’t be a sucker. Practice Safety.”
